The Internet has become a breeding ground for millions of brand-new malware samples every month. With names like Trojans, worms, bots or keyloggers these threats can ruin your day – or your PC. And for that matter, a single PC in the household with a virus can infect all other PCs, laptops and connected devices on the network. After all, the home PC is now the central hub of everyone’s digital life. It holds personal files, contacts, pictures and music. Maybe even the logins and passwords to your bank account.

How to download and keep YouTube videos to your iPhone or iPad

If you have ever wanted to download YouTube videos directly to your iOS device and haven’t found a good solution yet, well we may have the answer. What’s more, this tip does not require a jailbroken device. Read on and we will show you how right after the break!
[Thanks to  Colin for sending us this awesome tip, we'll send something special your way!]

Download TagDisk  from the App Store. To test the app, the free “Lite” version will do fine but it is restricted to four video downloads, if you find this app useful, you may want to upgrade to the full version.
  • Once installed, launch TagDisk. You will be greeted with the “Disk” screen, click on the browser on the bottom toolbar and enter “youtube.com” into the address bar.

  • This will take you to the YouTube home page where you can search and find videos as normal. When you have found a video you would like to download, hold your finger on the link and an options menu will appear. Select “Download Link” and the video will start to download to your device.

  • You can now start to queue a few videos up and they will download one after another to your device. Download speed is not the fastest here. I was on an 8 Meg ADSL connection but only managed to download at 130KB/Sec.

  • When all the downloads are complete, click on the “Disk” icon in the bottom toolbar and go into Documents. Here you will find your downloaded videos. A simple click on one of the videos and it will start to play. No need for any network connection to watch the downloaded videos!

That is all you need to do. I even tested this with Vimeo as well as YouTube and again it works perfectly. This little tip is awesome for me personally as I have awful broadband speeds at home. I can now download a slew of YouTube videos while I am at the office and enjoy them at my leisure without dealing with the stuttering, waiting and dropouts!
Tips of the day will range from beginner-level 101 to advanced-level ninjary. If you already know this tip, keep the link handy as a quick way to help a friend. If you have a tip of your own you’d like to suggest, add them to the comments or send them in to news@tipb.com. (If it’s especially awesome and previously unknown to us, we’ll even give ya a reward…)

Steer Safe steering wheel dock: In-car innovation for mobile devices?

Whether or not this is innovation is up to you to decide. Steer Safe is based on the idea that using your mobile device while driving can be safer, its basically a dock that is attached to the top of your steering wheel. By doing so, the designers believe driving will be safer as you’ll be able to keep your eyes on the road and won’t need to look towards either side to stare at your sat nav or find out who’s calling you while you’re busy driving.

The Steer Safe dock will universally fit almost any device shaped like a mobile phone ie iOS devices, BlackBerries, Android smartphones as well as mp3 players.

As you can see in the video below, it also lets you rotate your device onto landscape mode in case you need it for turn by turn navigation. The good thing is I suppose its not very obstructive and it won’t hit your knees when you turn, but many will probably take abit of time to get used to as most of us aren’t used to having something stuck in the top-center of our wheel. If you support the idea and want to make the concept a reality, jump to the Kickstarter page via the link below and give the creators your support…

Bluelounge MiniDock for iOS devices – it all makes sense

For less than $20 bucks this latest gadget for iOS or iDevice owners makes perfect sense. The Bluelounge MiniDock is basically a dock that plugs into the USB socket thereby replacing your connector cable with a miniature docking cradle that perches your iDevice right next to the mains.

While there many be situations where you’d still want a cable, I personally think the MiniDock will do the trick for me most of the time and keep things tidy too. Not only does it keep it off the ground where it can get stepped on, or off a desk where it could fall, but it also allows for hands-free usage in certain situations. Like listening to music, or watching recipe videos, while cooking.

HTML 5 is gaining more popularity with each day, so it’s no wonder to see that major companies such as Adobe are releasing tools that can allow us to create animated web content quickly using HTML 5, CSS, and JavaScript.

HTML 5 is an alternative to Flash, so Adobe has decided to release a new product called Adobe Edge that will make the process of creating animated content without Flash a bit easier. We also have to mention that Adobe Edge isn’t designed to replace Flash, instead, it’s designed to work bring similar Flash experience to iOS devices in HTML 5 format. Adobe Edge currently focuses on core animation engine, but in the future Adobe plans to add more features such as Canvas support, HTML 5 Audio and Video tags, and improved support for animated SVG graphics.
Adobe Edge has a lot to offer to HTML 5 developers, and it’s currently free during the public preview stage, so make sure you get the chance to try it out.

Windows 7 is the leading OS in the US

After more than a year since its release, Windows 7 has now achieved one important milestone, at least in the US.
According to the latest results, it appears that Windows XP isn’t the dominant operating system in the United States anymore and the throne has been claimed by Windows 7. According to the results, the ten-year-old operating system lost its market share in April 2011 and Windows XP currently holds 31.56% of the market share. Although Windows 7 is now the dominant operating system in United States, it is barely in front of Windows XP with 31.71% of market share. As for the third place, it is reserved for Windows Vista which holds 19.07% of the market, while fourth place goes to Mac OS X with 14.87%. Last but not least is Linux with only 0.7% of the market share.
Anyhow, this is a great milestone for Windows 7, it really goes to show how successful its been compared to Windows Vista.

Leaked: Windows 8 will be able to run from USB flash drive?

You already know that Windows 8 is in its testing stages, and that it will introduce Ribbon interface, but according to the latest news, it seems that the early build of Windows 8 has leaked and it’s available for download.

Somehow, this early build has been leaked and it’s available for download, but it doesn’t have much to offer. According to the screenshot, this build looks a lot like Windows 7, and it doesn’t have the Ribbon interface. We can only notice minor interface changes in the bottom right corner that are related to user’s accounts.
Of course, final version should be a lot different than this current early build. One of the features that we should mention is the ability to run Windows 8 from an external USB flash drive. This new feature is called ‘Portable Workspace’, and it allows you to create copies of Windows 8 and run them from a 16GB or larger USB drives. Of course, there will be certain requirements, but so far, there haven’t been any details about this feature.
Microsoft won’t be pleased about Windows 8 being leaked so early, and although this is just an early build, we are sure more interesting features are to come in the final version.

Rumored: Windows 8 will have Kinect support?

We know that Windows 8 which is currently ‘in the works’ will have a ton of new features, and since the early build of Windows 8 got leaked, computer enthusiasts have managed to find an additional feature – ‘detect human presence’ aka Kinect support.
According to latest reports, Windows 8 will have human detection sensor, so we’re guessing that Windows 8 will have Kinect support, that will allow you to log in to your Windows 8 using your physical appearance, that sounds very cool.
As you know, Kinect uses a similar feature to Xbox Live, so it’s quite possible that we might see this feature with Windows 8 as well. In addition, Microsoft has mentioned that Kinect support is arriving PCs, along with software development kits, so Windows 8 might be the right OS for it, and we just hope that the final version of Windows 8 will support it out of the box.
Of course, if you don’t want to wait, you can always turn your Kinect to Windows 7 input device thanks to the various hacks. Kinect support for Windows 8 is just a speculation, but its likely to come to life with the final version of Windows 8 either officially or unofficially via the ‘tweaking community’.
